I recently found a post here regarding calendars for 2008 so I followed up on that Forum Post and looked on line. I found some neat links for Calendar generation in Illustrator (and as PDF's).

There is a fellow by the name Kelso (came recommended at another forum by Mordy Golding) with a neat menu generated Ai calendar script (requires some editing and tabbing afterwards). [See link to Calendar Script v3.0 - with a video clip to see how to best use it].

There is also a Russian fellow (group?) with a translated script - several languages that works like the Kelso version but without the need to tab edit afterwards. Maybe the .txt generated version will help see how this was done.

Both Kelso's and the "Russian" version can be Edited for Font/Text color etc., afterwards.

Mordy Golding did point out elsewhere that Ai does have a Calendar Script (well hidden though with other neat scripts in the Program files). This generated one page (with picture) a monthly calendar with the current day noted on it. Looks like this script could be adapted by scripting experts to do much more. Too complex for me though. I was able to look at the scripting code though.

The other is a PDF generated pocket calendar (see Sporka link)

Should give those looking for some 2009 calendars generated using Illustrator some starting points.

Cheers,

Gary.

P.S. Even though Russian link states Photoshop in the name it is for Illustrator.
On the Kelso - which has other neat scripts - scroll down about half way for the Calendar stuff. Enjoy!

UPDATE: I just looked at the .txt generated version on the US File version of the "Russian group" Calendar Script. It is fully in English - so should help others play with this script to generate new versions to taste. Neat stuff!

Gary -- Thanks for mentioning my calendar script for Illustrator. The direct link to my script is here:
http://kelsocartography.com/blog/?p=1100

You can also find many other scripts I've written for automating or extending Illustrator here:
http://kelsocartography.com/scripts/

I plan on updating my calendar script so it has more customization for the language options (mostly done) and fixes the errors you had. While my script uses character styles and tabs to format the text, it can be a little harder to setup, but it is better when the user wants to continue designing their calendar. The "Russian" version you mention is hard coded as to the tab spacing, for instance, and does not support multiple dimensions.

Good find on the "Make Calendar" script that comes with Illustrator. It creates a page out of a traditional 12 month wall calendar using the current month that your computer is set to.

However... the script is not smart about determining which day of the week the first date of the month falls on, so you'll always have to clean up the results and recolor the "weekend" dates. Both my script that you reference and the "Russian" script start the first date of the month on the correct week day.

This script can be found in "Adobe Illustrator CS# > Scripting > Sample Scripts > AppleScript > Calendar> Make Calendar.app".

I think only on the Mac as it is an AppleScript? Or maybe PCs get this, too, as a Visual Basic script? So the path might look like... "Adobe Illustrator CS# > Scripting > Sample Scripts > VisualBasic > Calendar> Make Calendar".

You can change this AppleScript to make different months either by changing your computer date to the different month, or changing a line of the AppleScript:

set myMonth to month of today

like such:

set myMonth to August

Note there are no quote marks around August.

Version 4 of the Calendar script is now available:
http://kelsocartography.com/blog/?p=1403

New features and bug fixes in version 4:

Multi-lingual: Languages added for English, Deutsch, Español, Français, 中文, 日本語’, русский язык, and custom. This affects both the graphical dialog for creating the calendars and the month and day words in the calendar itself when it is created.
No longer need to have text frame selected, one will be created for you. If a text frame IS selected, it will be used.
Added ability to easily stylize weekend (Saturday and Sunday) dates numbers (eg gray or red).
Equal row spacing between months checkbox now works.
Buttons for current year and month now work.

I’m waiting on Adobe to let me know how to do the tab stops. In the meantime I’ve created a better video showing how to set these manually yourself (below) and change the character styles after the calendar is created.

There was a note on this by David Blatner recently - but I cannot locate it now (probably at InDesign Secrets but not sure which entry). But a new version may be available and there was discussion in InDesign magazine about it but I am not that familiar with it on problems etc. If you find the site I am sure the author would be interested to know of your issues with it and maybe able to solve them.

Gary.

There are some ready made calendars here:
http://vector.tutsplus.com/freebies/vectors/2010-free-vector-calendar/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+vectortuts+%28VECTORTUTS%29

These can be modified to suit and were just posted as a link yesterday at Vector Tuts.
