Battlestar Galactica Currency (back)
Description This is the back of Battlestar Galactica 1000 cubits currency. I've started on the back for the Pegasus and have had a blast doing them. I've probably gotten more positive reaction and feedback on this art than anything I've done.
I learn so much from doing these too because the designs are always a challenge for my vector skills.
Edited the portrait of Adama to match the engraved currency look.

For the portrait I prepped it in Photoshop and ran a plugin called "Cutline" for Andromeda software. http://www.andromeda.com/main/cutline.php
After I got the look I wanted I use the place command to place it in Illustrator and then did a custom live trace on it with "ignore white" turned on. After that I turned it into a live paint object and selected a green color swatch to match the rest of the piece.
Live trace smooths out the vectors and makes it look even more natural than the Photoshop engraved version. You have to play with the settings a bit but its really great for creating engraved effects in Illustrator.
