I have an MFA Degree in Illustration from Cal State Fullerton. I am also a digital illustration instructor at CSUF. I have been teaching there for almost 9 years now. I am also a computer graphics instructor at Santa Ana College, Orange Coast College and East LA College. (all of these are in southern California, of course) I am also a freelance illustrator and I am looking for gallery representation for my Limited-Edition Fine Art Giclee Prints of my Vector Art Motorcycle Portraits.

Description
I decided to go back and put together a file that showed a transitional fade from the full-color final art to the LINE ART View underneath. Apparently, more than a few people on some other sites were not so sure of the validity of my work and thought my images were merely photographs with a lame filter applied. So, now the "doubters" know better. Let me know what you think. - Chris.

Would have liked to see more detail. ;)

Great image.

Scott, What do you mean by "see more detail?" Have you also checked out my gallery page to see the full-color portrait of this bike as well? Is that what you mean by "more detail"? Let me know and I will put up another image as you think I should... just not sure what you mean yet. -Chris.

Sarcasm, Chris. Sorry ti doesn't always come across well in 10px ASCii type. I meant that there's a hell of a lot of detail in the image. It's wonderful. I was not making any type of derogatory comment. :)
23 April 2007 - 15:28: Chris Nielsen (pentoolart) replied...
No, No, No... No problem! I was just trying to make sure if there was something else you wanted to see, like a close-up, or something of that nature... No worries. - chris.

impressive as always, and thx for uploding this image, also i have a question, is it posible to have that fade away from lineal art for printing purposes, because i have an illustration done with mesh that ill like to see half with mesh and half with line work.. i know that this piece is not mesh, but do u know if its possible to do that and also print it because it can be done on photoshop by printing the screen but... it wont work if y want to print it
23 April 2007 - 01:51: Chris Nielsen (pentoolart) replied...
Hey there, About your question: I have actually never tried to print my images like that directly from Illustrator. In fact, I almost NEVER print directly from Illustrator, no matter what it is that I do. The fine art printer that I use to print my Giclee Prints has always taken my Illustrator files and Rasterized them as High Resolution Files in Photoshop for printing. So, I do the same now. Plus, once they are in Photoshop, I have the options to adjust the contrast a little through the Levels and make any other fine-tuning adjustments in the Color Balance or the Hue/Saturation Dialog box. To get the fade result you see here, I saved my Illustrator file in 2 versions: ! was the full-color print, and the other I saved by converting EVERYTHING to Black and White Line Art with No Fills on anything. Then, I brough both files into Photoshop and set them up right on top of each other. Then, with a Layer Mask, I painted a black and white gradient across the full-color layer to get that fade to show people the "origins" of a portrait like this. Hope that helps! - Chris.

WOW! No Way! I was just looking around the site the other day and you are one of those I tagged as a "Watch this artist" option. I am in awe of what you have done with portraits of people! I love your stuff! I really wish I could handle the mesh tool like you, but I have kind of settled on the reality that I will never "get it" like you have. Anyway, thanks for the compliment. It really means a lot coming from someone like yourself. - Chris.
