Learning to Draw
Versailles, France
Chris is a German/American hybrid working as a webdesigner in France. He always wanted to become a comic artist but didn't realize he had to actually start drawing comics to fulfill his dream. Now that he discovered the computer as an art tool he is desperately trying to make up for all the time wasted on not drawing.

Description
This is the first of a possible comic series dealing with my break up. This dialog is pretty much exactly how it happened.

The complete image was done in Illustrator except for the blur effect on the trees, which was done in Photoshop (radial blur). The reflection in the window was achieved by giving that layer the transparency "Lighten", since "Screen" looked too unnatural.

Instead of preparing an extra shadow hue for every color, I finally found a graphic style that gives me the perfect shadow result for every color beneath. The shadow object has three black fills: Color Burn (7% Opacity), Hard Light (5% Opacity) and Overlay (7% Opacity).

Also I used a self-written Scriptographer script with which I can apply the dynamic stylus-generated stroke width from one line to another, easily giving carefully created lines a more natural looking brush stroke. (http://www.scriptographer.com)
