I have an MFA Degree in Illustration from Cal State Fullerton. I am also a digital illustration instructor at CSUF. I have been teaching there for almost 9 years now. I am also a computer graphics instructor at Santa Ana College, Orange Coast College and East LA College. (all of these are in southern California, of course) I am also a freelance illustrator and I am looking for gallery representation for my Limited-Edition Fine Art Giclee Prints of my Vector Art Motorcycle Portraits.
My Son - Jonah
Description A portait of my son, Jonah. I did this one for a Christmas Present for my wife. We adopted little Jonah when he was an infant. We even got to be there at the hospital when he was born! Single, most greatest day of my life! This illustration was also used in David Karlins' book "Illustrator CS2 Gone Wild" and was also featured on the back cover of that same book. - Chris.

how was this done in AI?
Your child is cute but dare I say I think it looks a little scary without gradated tones being used

Thanks for the Honesty Dkelly. Unfortunately (for me) a lot of people seem to agree... and now I am seeing that more and more with this portrait. I tried to challenge myself by NOT using any gradients. It forced me to look at colors a whole new way, but I can see he is not the smooth little kid I was trying to draw. I have refined my skills a lot more since then, so this was a great learning experience with this portrait. I guess from now on, I know I will do a great job if I stick to drawing wrinkled, old people! :) - Chris.
