Description I set out this fruit plate a couple of days ago and was struck by the composition of the plate. I don't do many still-lifes, but I was compelled to do this one. This was, among other things, an exercise in seeing how many different ways I could get Illustrator to crash. I approached this like a digital painting, a la Painter or Photoshop, and quickly found out why Illustrator isn't used much for that. On the other hand, it tends not to look like so much like a vector--even though it is.
No mesh. No raster effects. Lots of custom art brushes, a few blends, some symbols. No photo-reference (this was drawn from life). No Wacom tablet (this was drawn with a mouse). Lots of headaches.
Enjoy.

That's what I'm talking about! Fantastic. Innovative, creative use of an old AI tool! This gets an award ; )

Wow. I'm a bit overwhelmed. I guess I can swim in the deep end now. Thanks for the award. It was wholly unexpected.

So many folks don't understand that Illustrator is an ARTIST'S tool.... so it's WONDERFUL to see real art created with features in AI. Yeah, get rid of those floaties... you can definitely leave the shallow end ; )
Thanks for the kind words.
