Description
The K4 Pacific locomotive was the flagship of the Pennsylvania Railroad's passenger fleet. The K4 was first developed in 1914 and continued to evolve until the mid 1950's. The K4 turned out to be one of the most successful steam locomotives ever built. PRR No. 1188 was built at the Juniata Shops in Altoona, PA in 1918, she was unique among the K4 locomotives due to her boiler top streamlining. Because of this streamlining, 1188 was called the "Skyline".
Today, only 2 K4 Pacific locomotives of the 425 built still exist, No. 1361 and No. 3750, both are preserved and share the title of the official steam locomotive of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
