Most of the work represented here is personal art I've created using skills honed over the years as a graphic designer, but unrestrained by any corporate demands. Most of my work is tinged with a hint of irreverence. Woot!
Los Feliz Arts Charter
Description My daughter just started attending kindergarten in LA. The school is a brand new Arts Charter. They knew that I did illustration and design work and asked if I would create a graphic for a new school tee, gratis. I gladly accepted. I kept the colors down to keep the printing from getting too expensive; this is a two-color version, I also submitted a one-color version. This is all pen tool (and a lot of dividing and merging) built from a scanned sketch. The most notable thing about this piece for me was that I tried to keep my outlines (the black lines) a little thinner than normal and I was deliberate about incorporating several distinct line widths. I am really pleased with how this came out and can't wait to see my daughter wearing it!

Hey Arlo,
I'm a big fan of your work. I like the fact that its imaginative and funny, and you have a wonderful way with colour. Bleh and Toxic Butterfly are particular faves of mine, and this is great too.
I also appreciate the fact that you put comments at the bottom of your work. For a newbie like me it helps me get a flavour of what you are trying to achieve and how AI should be used. I should probably ask this in the forum but I wondered what you meant by dividing and merging when you used the pen tool on this illustration? Thanks
Keep posting your cool work, and i'm sure your daughter will be proud to wear that t-shirt.

Hi John, thanks for the great feedback. I have posted a tutorial at the following location: IllustratorWorld Forum > Illustrator Questions > Technique > Hand Drawn Outlines (Divide and Merge). I hope that you will find it helpful. I have been having some issues with my forum account so hopefully the tutorial won't be disappear before you find it. If it does I will try to replace it as quickly as possible. I will keep my fingers crossed!

Dude,
thanks so much for that tutorial. It helped clear up a lot of questions I had about AI tools, and the way you work.
And by the looks of things lots of other people really enjoyed it too.
You're a credit to IW. Look forward to seeing some more of your work soon, and hopefully i'll have something to post myself soon too.
Ciao for now

G'day Arlo
Love your work man! After seeing this poster I had to see what else you had done. Great stuff. Checked your MySpace as well. I really agree with you on the spelling thing but have to agree to disagree about the existence of God : )

Haha, thanks for the great comment. I can see from your work that you know your way around an illustration so the positive feedback is especially rewarding. The god thing is definitely a nonstarter, we'll just leave it alone!
